I bought this in March 2010, from the great reviews
nice speaker, sleek and cool, worked easily.
I just thought it was weak.
Everyone has a different opinion on what is a loud or strong speaker,
but my 7 year old, busted, off brand computer speakers
was louder, with more depth
I was very disappointed with the sound
ok at low volume
but no bass, no depth, and it went about as load as a good clock radio.
I guess thats ok for some
but I sent it back, and I never send anything back
This wireless speaker is everything I hoped it would be. I wanted to have a speaker I could use with my laptop, whether I was sitting on the bed (my favorite place to use my computer) or at my desk. I wanted to be able to watch movies, TV shows, or You Tube and have good quality sound, as well as hear music from my computer or ipod and not have to be plugged in to a speaker accross the room. This speaker does all that. The only problem I had with it was that sometimes the computer wanted to use its built-in speakers instead of sending the sound to the wireless speaker. That was solved easily enough by changing the default speaker to Mint in the Hardware and Sound section of the Control Panel. Easy.
I love my Mint Studio Wireless Speaker. You can turn it up loud enough to bug the neighbors (not that that’s my objective) without the sound becoming distorted. The sound quality is pretty decent for a speaker of that size, and I LOVE the convenience. I work on my laptop in my bedroom most of the time, but I like to listen to streaming music while I’m cooking or cleaning elsewhere in the house. Previously, I had to lug my laptop around with me (and yeah, even though it’s a laptop, it’s lugging . . . all the cables, etc.). Now I can just plug in the Mint USB dongle and I’ve instantly got music in the living room, loud enough to hear as I move from room to room (and if I were so inclined, the Mint speaker would be a lot easier to move around than my laptop setup). I also tried out my husband’s iPod on it, and it worked flawlessly. My daughter has a Sansa MP3 player, and though the controls (other than volume) can’t be worked through the Mint speaker (only iPods can), she loves using the Mint (even though she already had a set of decent JBL Portable Speakers).
I have just two small complaints: First, though the connectivity is usually pretty good, sometimes there are periods when the connection is very spotty, causing the music to drop out repeatedly for a few seconds. I would be inclined to think that there is something blocking good reception (the washer and dryer, perhaps?), but the fact that it doesn’t *always* do that (with both my computer and the speaker in the exact same place) makes me wonder. And every now and then (infrequently) the speaker picks up some kind of interference, causing it to crackle and make horrible noises. Second, I wish the remote were bigger and used AA batteries. The little credit-card-sized remote is too easy to lose, and the batteries are already going out (after just a couple of months), and they will be a bigger hassle (and expense) to replace.
Overall, this is a great, indispensable product. It’s really too expensive, but I’m delighted to have it.
Alright, I admit it. When I got the Mint Studio Wireless Speaker System, I got it hoping that I’d be able to place the USB plug into my television and be able to get sound from the speaker on the other side of a long room. It doesn’t work that way at all, and I should have known better.
However, both my wife and I love this product because now we can plug the USB transmitter into our laptops, bring the speaker into the kitchen, and enjoy all of our IPod tunes right from the computer. What’s even nicer is that there is a port on the speaker for your Ipod, but we’ve found it to be completely convenient to have the option to go straight from your computer. If my wife is working downstairs, then she can bring the speaker downstairs; it works wonderfully. Good range!
It is well-constructed, a fairly wieghty speaker, actually. The sound it delivers is very good; I rated it four stars, but if there were a three and a half option, I would have chosen that one. My wife would have given it four (she’s reading as I type this!).
The remote is great, but it’s still one of those things were you think most of the time you don’t really need a remote. Most of the times I can think of using the speaker, I would just use the controls on the speaker… but the speaker-set controls aren’t very well laid out, and the remote controls are ideal.
After two months of use, I’m very pleased with this speaker. My brother-in-law wants it, and knowing him, perhaps that’s an even better report of this product that I have given. I would recommend it.
I have been looking for a wireless speaker system for our summer deck parties and was not willing to spend the money for a Bose Soundlink–it may be worth the price but not to me. I found the Mint Studio Wireless system mentioned as an alternative choice and started to do my research. This product was a great find and the price was more than right. I have several pc desktops along with an iMAC and and MacBook Pro spread around on 3 different stories in a 90 year old house (lots of cast iron pipes etc). I keep most of my music collection and a Lacie NAS media server and connect everything together with a Netgear WNDR3700 N band wireless router.
I received my Mint Studio Speaker yesterday and it is truly amazing. The set up was just as advertised (on both the pc and Mac). Just plug in the USB transmitter (select audio output on the MAC) and the music flows from the Mint system. I moved all around the house and it worked great everywhere–the range was more than I had expected. It should be noted that the remote for the speaker is strictly line of sight as expected. I was also surprised by the sound quality of the unit. Now we are NOT talking audiophile sound here, but it more than fills up the room with music and the bass is really pretty good considering there is no subwoofer. The volume it can produce is more than I need.
I have not done much with the iPOD dock as of yet (the main reason I bought this product was the wireless). I did plug in my iPOD Touch to charge it and that went well.
I would highly recommend this product. A great product from Mint.
